This morning, at the 96th Street Station on the East Side, while trying to move the value of one metrocard to another, a woman tried to use one of the card swipers at the token booth. The clerk literally yelled at her, “You can’t swipe your card when I’m in the middle of a transaction!” As if to say, did you just get off the boat?
MTA: #1 in customer service (when you’re beneath the streets of New York City), 100 years running.
Oh, and my transaction failed anyway. It “couldn’t be done” with that type of card. Wha?

MTA employee #2: This lock I got at the hardware store should keep prying fingers out.

MTA blames litter problem on free press via AM New York
Monthly trash pickups have grown from 35 tons in 2004 to 50 tons last year. That extra rubbish may have contributed to a 40% spike in subway fires, officials said during an MTA New York City Transit committee meeting Monday.
Free newspapers are partly to blame, said Michael Lombardi, vice president of subways for New York City Transit.
“Between their aggressive handouts and sometimes the way they distribute them, it adds to an increase of the amount of newspapers and trash we pick up on a daily basis,” he said. “It is a combination of increased ridership, eating more on the trains and more newspapers being introduced into the transit system,” he said.
I don’t quite see how those things (increased ridership, more eating, and more newspapers) cause more fires. Is it just me or is the connection unclear?
Hey MTA: Maybe try picking up the trash once in a while! Also, how about enforcing rules against littering?

Let’s talk about garbage.
Common Subway Announcement: Help us keep the subway litter free. Please use trash receptacles.
Homer and Marge at “Family Skills” class (3F01):
And put your garbage in a garbage can, people. I can't stress
that enough. Don't just throw it out the window.
Marge: This is so humiliating.
Homer: [writing furiously] "Garbage in garbage can"...hmm, makes
sense.

From the new subway rules:
It is a violation to-
- Place one’s foot on the seat of a subway, bus, or platform bench; occupy more than one seat or place bags on an empty seat when doing so would interfere with transit operations or the comfort of other customers
But what if you’re just a very large person?
