City unveils pay toilets of tomorrow

“We are nearing the finish line,” said Department of Transportation Commissioner Iris Weinshall. “We feel confident that New Yorkers will be excited about the final designs.

I sure am!

After the 15 minutes are up, the (bathroom) door will just pop open.

But not to worry, a warning will sound when three minutes are left.

Still, accidents will happen…

I think it’s cute they’re upset enough to blog about these tickets

La Vista Mayor Doug Kindig: “It will be a premier parking lot”

March 22, 2006

City parking lot design advances via Bellevue (Nev.) Leader

Parking lot designs will probably never hang on the walls of an art museum or stimulate conversation at cocktail parties but nevertheless, the preliminary design of La Vista’s first city-owned public parking area at Southport West has “classy” stamped all over it.

They’ll hang on the walls if I ever open an art gallery!

EOTT salutes the forward-thinking local government officials of La Vista, Nev.

EOTT will try to find an artist’s rendition of this exciting new project.

City overrun with film crews; drivers inconvenienced

March 20, 2006

Hand it to NYC Parking Enforcement to put these notices up all around the Silicon Fish Market on a Sunday night. What if I’m parked legally at a Tuesday-Friday spot? I guess I’m supposed to check for new movie productions every 24 hours. (How many movies can Don Cheadle do, anyway?)

Someone please find out what production this no-parking notice is associated with? So I can stage a boycott…

Curse you booming NYC film economy!

(Apologies in advance for all the SCREAMING. It’s just the City’s way of communicating.)

To me this sounds like a great service. You’ll find me a legal parking space? Oh…wait. Now I get it.

March 14, 2006

Courtesy of Rich Mintz, attending the IPSC, who found this sign, which was supposed to be a secret, but we’ve decided to let the cat out of the bag. This sign will be debuting in 2008 as the new welcome sign for NYC, posted at the entrance to all the bridges & tunnels.

Can you define ‘difficult’?

March 13, 2006

In my never ending search for a real job in municipal parking, I am constantly perusing the NYC DOT Employment page. To my delight, I discovered this job for

Principal Administrative Associate – Level I – Brooklyn Street Maintenance  http://www.nyc.gov/html/dot/html/about/employ_rrm0227.html

whose job description is as follows:

Under general supervision, with some latitude for independent initiative and judgment, performs difficult administrative functions for Brooklyn Street Maintenance. Prepares reports, charts, tables, and data entry. Responsible for modernizing and enhancing the existing methods of maintaining and filing records. Must respond to telephone inquiries. Assist supervisor with various special assignments. Serve as main support staff for Brooklyn Street Maintenance.

The Salary Range for the job is: $38,205 – $48,665 .

I was concerned with how difficult the ‘difficult administrative functions’ would be and started dreaming of ways of modernizing their filing system. I wasn’t really sure if the salary was good enough, so I clicked on the next job for:
